September is a lovely time to visit Santa Fe and below we’ve highlighted just two of our favorite events…

Santa Fe Thunder Half Marathon

The Santa Fe Thunder Half Marathon is a great charity event, with runners raising funds for a variety of projects. If you want to (or just find out more) you can check out the official website here. Runners will follow a course that leads them 1000 feet down into the beautiful Rio Grande Valley. Participants for both this and the 5k event can register online or in-person. All the races begin at 8 am and runners will be supported during the event with aid stations. There are a couple of cash prizes linked to the half marathon too, so if you have a competitive streak then this might be the event for you!

Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta

santa fe wine and chileThis is something a little more on the relaxing side and ideal for those who want to enjoy the best fare that the region has to offer. Taking place from September 23rd to the 27th, this event will be held at a number of different venues across the city. All of the top restaurants will be taking part in this year’s event, the 25th anniversary of the fiesta. Widely considered to be one of the best wine and food events in the region, this year will see 75 restaurants and 100 wineries showcasing their best food and drink.

Events that will be held during the fiesta include a number of winery luncheons with guest chefs, a number of cooking demonstrations at the city’s School of Cooking, wine seminars at some of the city’s hotels and a wine tasting at the Community Convention Center. You can also take part in the Live Auction Guest Chefs Luncheon. Chefs taking part in the event include Stephan Pyle, John Sedlar, Matthew Accarrino, Mark Miller and Laura Werlin, among others. No less than four Master Sommeliers will be hosting the wine seminars and there will also be plenty of local chefs appearing at the event too. Golf  and biking events will also take place for those who want to be a little more active! Find out more at the official website here.
