Never make the mistake of thinking that just because the summer has come to an end that Santa Fe has nothing to offer. We have major events happening all year round and if you want to visit the city in October you will not be disappointed.
Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
From October 6-8 you can take part in this colorful celebration of the variety of cultures in the Santa Fe region. The second Monday in October is used to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day each year and Santa Fe will be hosting a variety of different events to honor the people of the 23 different indigenous tribes that have a home in New Mexico. Head to the Santa Fe Plaza to be right in the heart of the music, dancing and performances.
Also taking place in October, the Studio Tours have become a real favorite with visitors to the city. Try the Abiquiu Studio Tour, which takes you through the village of the same name and where you can hunt for unique items to take home. This tour takes place from October 6-8 but if you want to visit the region later in the month you will not be missing out. The Galisteo Tour is held on October 13 and 14th and you can find arts and crafts of all styles, all created by local artists.
International Balloon Fiesta
This is actually held in Albuquerque but it is close enough for visitors to Santa Fe to enjoy. This starts on October 6th and continues until October 14th. The balloonists start the day early and you can see them fill the sky at dawn. If you prefer to have a later start to the day you will not miss out as they also fly at dusk and even into the night. Watch some of the races take place and marvel at the spectacular sight of hundreds of hot air balloons slowly moving across the sky.
Santa Fe Independent Film Festival
Starting on October 17th and finishing on October 21st, the Santa Fe International Film Festival is one of the most popular events of its type in the region. Promoting independent and innovative movie-making, a number of top stars have made an appearance here over the years and 2018 will not be any different.
Review Santa Fe International Photography Festival
Photography enthusiasts of all ages will be heading for Santa Fe to visit the photography festival which starts on October 18th. This event lasts for four days and professional photographers from all over the world will be taking part.
